After being shortlisted to the final 8 for the “Positive Role Model Award for LGBT” from almost 20,000 people the day had finally come to attend the event at Liverpools famous Anglican cathederal. To say that I was nervous was an understatement as I had never ever been shortlisted for anything let alone attend such a prestigeous event as this.
Watching the films play for each category with people telling us why that person should win was fantastic but when the category for which I was nominated came around and the film for me started playing my heart just about exploded out of my chest! I was feeling sick & shaking like a leaf just incase I got called to collect an award and speak in front of everybody present. I have posted a copy of that film as played on the night to everyone below which was made possible by some amazing role models. They are in order of playback , Therese Procter the People Director of Tesco, Stuart Duffy the founder of Pink Saltire and Juno Roche Trans activist and Blair Peach Award winner to which I can only say thank you for there amazing words.
I know this sounds daft but to find out that I didn’t win was a huge relief as I didn’t have to go up on stage and thank everybody. Now I could get on and enjoy the rest of the awards and the evening. I met so many inspirational people that night below you can see Emma Miller McCaffrey & her wife Ann Miller McCaffrey then there’s a picture of mysel & my wife Julie. Next to that is the inspirational Ash Loakes then Debbie Louise Cannon and finally John Naples-Campbell and his partner Cameron.
All I can say is what a fantastic night that was !
